A layout mode where the current speaker is displayed prominently, filling the main area of the screen.

What is Active Speaker Mode?

Active Speaker is a dynamic video layout that automatically detects who is talking (using VAD) and displays their video feed in the largest, central part of the screen. Other participants are usually shown in a smaller filmstrip or thumbnail row.

How it Works

  • Audio Level Detection: The system monitors the audio volume of all participants.
  • Switching Logic: To prevent rapid, dizzying switching (e.g., if someone coughs), algorithms usually require a person to speak for a certain duration (e.g., 500ms) and volume threshold before switching the main view.
  • Last Active: When no one is speaking, the view typically remains on the last person who spoke.
